A signature program launched by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF)’s is testing the art of the possible in accomplishing those goals and gaining interest across the political spectrum: the . NSF Engines is one of the broadest investments in place-based technology development leading to economic growth and job creation since President Lincoln signed the Morrill Acts and established American land-grant universities during the height of the American Civil War.

With a focus on non-traditional regions, it provides up to ten years of funding to regional public-private partnerships to grow regional industries with roots in critical and emerging technology areas by advancing applied R&D, technology transition, and workforce development.
