In the past, communities of color have been left behind during economic recoveries. Given the outsized impact of the pandemic on Chicago’s communities of color, it will take years for people to recover emotionally and financially. With support from  and the initiative, the partnered with ������Ƶ Chicago to hold Community Conversations in seven majority Black and Latinx areas of the city and suburbs. In the process of listening to communities, the team learned much about the long-term effects of the pandemic and the resilience of the communities featured. Distilled in the report, “” these community insights and experiences are guiding We Rise Together efforts and can be useful to civic leaders as public funding and private resources are being directed to achieve an equitable and inclusive recovery. 

Learn more about how the pandemic has impacted residents in some of the hardest hit neighborhoods and suburbs, as well as what residents’ vision for recovery looks like. The event will include an overview of how recovery dollars could be used in the city, county, and state to invest equitably in recovery, as well as time for questions and answers.

Anteriormente, comunidades minorías se habían dejado atrás durante recuperaciones económicas. Debido el enorme impacto que tuvo la pandemia en comunidades minorías, a las personas les tomará años para recuperarse emocional y económicamente. Con el apoyo del Chicago Community Trust y de la iniciativa Creciendo Juntos (We Rise Together), el BECOME Center trabajó con ������Ƶ Chicago para llevar acabo una serie de siete conversaciones en comunidades mayormente afroamericanas y latinas en la ciudad y los suburbios. En el proceso de escuchar a las comunidades, el equipo aprendió mucho sobre el impacto a largo plazo de la pandemia y de la resistencia de las comunidades participantes.
