Our friends and readers in the greater NYC area should take note that we’re co-hosting an event tomorrow eveing, Thursday December 13th from 6:30 pm to 8:15 pm, at the ¹ú²úÊÓƵ NYC space at in the SoHo neighborhood of Manhattan.

will provide a look at how big picture trends in employment, benefits, and social policy have combined to move risk and responsibility off of institutions and on to individuals and families. The speed of this shift has been increased by the economic challenges of the past few years and the Great Recession has also laid bare the impacts of this trend.

We’re co-sponsoring the event with , a really smart and innovative NYC-based non-profit that is working on fighting these trends through increased financial empowerment. I’m looking forward to hearing some on the ground stories of how these big trends are impacting ordinary New Yorkers and how the Clinic’s tools work to help those folks build a better life.

We also have assembled a tremendous lineup of panelists:

• James Parrott, Deputy Director and Chief Economist of the will share some of his insight into the nature of increasingly shifted risk and quantify the burden on families.
• Kristin Morse, Executive Director of NYC’s is at the forefront of New York’s groundbreaking local policy innovation geared toward combating poverty and strengthening the middle class.
• Chauncy Lennon, Program Officer from the Ford Foundation’s team, works to support access to good jobs access to services.

There’s still time to for what will definitely be a fascinating conversation about trends that impact all of us, but in particular those that are struggling to make ends meet.
