������Ƶ today appointed Alan Davidson Vice President for Technology Policy and Strategy, and Director of the Open Technology Institute. OTI Founder Sascha Meinrath will assume leadership of a new venture focused on tech innovation at ������Ƶ, the X-Lab.

Currently a Visiting Scholar at MIT, Davidson is one of the pioneers of Internet policy, starting with his work in the field in 1995 at the Center for Democracy and Technology, where he promoted civil liberties and human rights in the new digital space. Davidson then founded Google’s Washington, DC policy shop in 2005, and is the co-founder of the new MIT Information Policy Project. ��His start date at OTI and ������Ƶ will be March 31.

“Alan brings world-class expertise in technology policy to ������Ƶ, along with a wealth of technical and management strengths. We are fortunate to have him on board,” said Anne-Marie Slaughter, President and CEO of ������Ƶ. “Given his track record working on civil liberties issues at CDT, to directing policy at Google, to his current work at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Alan will provide excellent leadership for OTI into the future. He will build on the great work that Sascha imagined and brought into being.”

OTI Founder Sascha Meinrath’s leadership of the X-Lab is effective immediately.��“I’ve had the singular joy of creating, and then directing for seven years, ������Ƶ’s Open Technology Institute, which has successfully catalyzed innovative and disruptive interventions,” Meinrath said. ��“Now I’m thrilled to launch a new exciting project at ������Ƶ:��the X-Lab, with an eye towards continued experimentation and tech innovation in the service of the public good. Alan Davidson will provide OTI with strong leadership going forward, and I look forward to collaborating with him.”
