Public Interest Coalition Comments on Higher Wi-Fi Power in 6 GHz Band

OTI 5G Wifi.jpg

OTI and other public interest organizations submitted comments to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) urging the Commission to increase WiFi power levels for indoor-only operations. They say that many Americans use WiFi indoors, but low power levels deprive them of affordable access to the next generation of WiFi 7 and 8.

They make three points:

  • Americans will benefit most from a modest 3 dB increase in the power spectrum density level for LPI operations (from 5 dBm/MHz to 8 dBm/MHz).
  • They support the Commission鈥檚 proposal to adopt rules authorizing indoor-only Wi-Fi access points under Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) control to fully account for Building Entry Loss (BEL) when calculating available channels and power levels.
  • They support the Commission鈥檚 proposal to authorize the operation of LPI access points on cruise ships as defined in 33 CFR 搂 101.105.
