Charles Turner spends his days giving back to his community, mentoring young people through the Free Minds Book Club, and leading a custodial team at one of DC’s largest libraries. His work at homeless shelters is a reflection of his unyielding commitment to others.

Timothy Catlett

Timothy Catlett, having fought his way through the foster care system, continues to defy the odds. Volunteering at Free Minds Book Club and planning his wedding next summer, Timothy is a tireless worker and dedicated father-to-be.

Cliff Yarborough

Cliff Yarborough takes pride in ensuring the safety of children as they head to school, while caring for his mother and nurturing his community with small, daily acts of kindness—like sending personalized good morning messages to over 100 friends and family each day.

Levy Rouse

Levy Rouse, a computer science graduate and devout Christian, has found freedom after years of wrongful imprisonment. He is now working at a community center in Southeast DC, deeply grateful for the second chance he’s been given.

Chris Turner

Chris Turner uses his experience to teach and inspire others. He’s lectured at universities, served as a board member for the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project, and continues to fight for justice as board chair of Free Minds Book Club. His commitment to the cause was recently recognized with the Greater Washington Urban League’s 2024 Community Impact Award.

Russell Overton

Russell Overton, after spending 37.5 years wrongfully incarcerated, now works at Costco, where he’s been awarded Employee of the Month twice. His focus is on rebuilding relationships with his children and exploring his passion for pottery.
