Crisis Conversations: Parenting Alone in the Time of COVID-19

The coronavirus pandemic is completely upending the way we work, live, connect with one another and what we expect from our government, communities and each other. It鈥檚 all happening so fast that stress levels and anxiety are sky high. That鈥檚 why the Better Life Lab is hosting a weekly interactive conversation for people to come together, share stories and begin to make sense of what鈥檚 unfolding and what it could mean for the future of gender equity, health, how we work and how we live.

Crisis Conversations鈥揕ive from Better Life Lab is hosted by Brigid Schulte and produced by David Schulman.

It's tough to be a single parent in the best of times. Now the coronavirus pandemic has made it even harder. One in five children in the United States live with a single mother, and 4 percent live with a single father. And while the number of children living with an unmarried parent has more than doubled since 1968, most work and care systems are still set up to support two-parent families. How are single-parent families managing the coronavirus pandemic? And what will they need to thrive once we鈥檙e out of the聽crisis?

To take on these questions, Better Life Lab's Brigid Schulte is joined by:

  • Nahsis Davis, nurse practitioner and single foster mother of three
  • Alison Griffin, Senior Vice president for Whiteboard Advisors and single mother of two
  • Nicole Sussner Rodgers, Founder and Executive Director of Family Story
