Democracy Beyond COVID-19

The Politics of Crisis Policymaking

Capitol 2 - PolRef Package

Abstract

The challenges facing American democracy and self-government are always evolving, and it鈥檚 the goal of 国产视频鈥檚 to find and develop fresh approaches that match the moment. The COVID-19 pandemic and recession鈥攚ith the attached failures of the federal government, the evolving conflict between different tiers of government, the frantic transformation of social support programs, and questions about how to hold elections and party conventions鈥攂ring a storm of new challenges all at once.

What will the agenda of political reform look like six months or a year from now? How do we rebuild American democracy and government so it can better respond to human needs, generate and reflect consensus, and prevent the next crisis鈥攚hatever form that might take? The Political Reform program set out to answer, or at least identify, some of these questions in the following essays. We hope you鈥檒l find them useful and thought-provoking.
